BRIEF: To design a formal traditional country garden to give the new property a sense of place within the existing grounds of the old house. Emphasis was placed on the 'feel' of the garden and that the different areas although all in a classical style, should try to evoke different moods. It should be practical and promote a sense of exploration and journey. Entertaining space was of prime importance.
DESIGN RESPONSE: The site was subdivided up to create various areas and each was treatd with an appropriate feature or focal point. A running theme of structural Yew hedging gives a sense of continuity within the garden as does the use of oak, for gates, steps and benches. Planting pallette was mixed although quite restrained, especially where a grid matrix was used to emphasise the formallity of the scheme. Designed by Matt Nichol. Built by Notcutts Landscapes.
