Solihull-West Midlands-2007

BRIEF: To create a small garden that was easy to maintain incorporating an access path to the rear of the garden. The client wished for a small seating area and also wished to have a small lawn area.

DESIGN RESPONSE: The seating area was dictated by the sites orientation making the area by the house the obvious choice. This paved seating area was set just off centre to the French windows allowing easy access to the garden around the circular table. Creating the illusion of space was achieved using two staggered sections of painted trellis. This allowed a partial view of the garden space beyond which thus inferring a sense of space. Small cobble style paving setts created a textured path that worked well with the scale of the garden. Planting was very simple and easy to care for, giving mainly summer interest, plants included Hemerocallis ‘Frans Hals’ and Ceanothus ‘Puget Blue’.
