BRIEF: To create a family garden which maximises the lawn area, creates a storage area and a sunny terrace for 'al-fresco' dining. The scheme should integrate the new extension and large sliding doors to open out into an extension of the interior space.
DESIGN RESPONSE: Responding to the rendered nature of the property, we introduced a series of rendered walls of different heights to act as informal seating, a clean backdrop to foliage planting such as the Acer and the grasses and to sub divide the garden into two distinct areas. A long level lawn and south facing border were created by re-grading the site. The lawn is edged in steel to maintain the integrity of the design. Planting is a mixture of structural plants, evergreens and loose drifts of perennials.
